Dollar Store Skin Care Secrets
I, a woman rapidly aging into obscurity, have some skin care recs that you can take to the bank without breaking it! I’m 35 years old and I just want my skin to feel supple, soft, and affordable – and you can too! My skin care secrets are a mash up of drug store staples, sephora splurges and generics – enjoy! And listen to Lady Journey for more beauty and lifestyle content!
Day
I start my day with Neutrogena, yes it IS a little harsh, but if you’re a listener of Lady Journey podcast you know that this is one of my daily antidotes for blepharitis. I follow up with The Ordinary Buffet and then The Ordinary Squalane. Buffet is the perfect all in one serum. I started using squalane (this kind is plant derived) one winter to help combat dryness, and it’s become vital for my signature dewey glow. I top myself iff with the hoy grail of cheap skincare Olay Regenerst Lotion with SPF. If I’m going out for the day and want to serve a more polished look I’ll apply a little Dr. Jart’s Cicapair to camouflage my red Irish skin.
Night
Neutrogena again followed by Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask and Avocado Melt Retinol Eye Cream. These are kind of pricey, yes, but the portions are huge! I’ve been on the same ones for almost a year.
Weekend
I force myself to do a weekly series of masks and insist on calling it “self care” though it feels more like self work. Start off with a cleanse and then apply the Sephora Glow Pads – budget and quality peel! After 10 minutes I apply my Generic Charcoal Mask – it’s honestly close enough to Glam Glow that I can’t notice a difference, and it’s $13 instead of $83. Wash off after 5-10 minutes and then one more 10 minute sesh with a big glop of the watermelon glow mask. Then I wahs off and follow my normal skin care routine.
