108: Producing a Comedy Album and Hygge
Show Notes – Episode 108: Album Recording, Quitting and Hygge
On this week’s journey, Sarah examines the beauty of giving up. Katie walks us through self producing her comedy album. And together the ladies explore the fun and magic of hygge and winter lifestyle.
Self Producing a Comedy Album
Katie recently recorded her debut comedy album and produced it herself, out of pocket. She chats about her creative process and the decision to self produce. She compares self producing with going with a comedy label. Sarah Tollemache also has a comedy album, Voluptuous Boy.
When Is it Time to Quit?
Sarah celebrates the beauty of quitting. Sometimes cutting an unsuccessful project loose is a triumph in itself. Sometimes you’re doing comedy for 20 years and staying in a stranger’s home to break even.
Hygge and Winter Lifestyle
Katie’s obsessed with the Danish art of winter lifestyle, Hygge. Winter is way more bearable when you take the time to prepare, get the cozy shit, and make plans for fun, indoor activities. Candles, room scents, baking, weighted blankets. Time to hunker down!
Takeaways
- Never value your self worth by how much money you’re making!
- If you do quit project that’s not working out, treat yourself
- Correction: hygge’s not Dutch, it’s Danish.
- Dark City is the name of the movie Katie’s referencing.
Inspirational Quotes
- “Just quit! That’s Lady Journey’s message.” – Katie Hannigan
- “Winter is a season for depressives – it’s our time to shine!” – Sarah Tollemache
