Show Notes – Episode 109: Lady Business
On this weeks episode of Lady Journey, Sarah dishes about her recent covid travels to Germany. The ladies then tackle lady business, their personal finances journeys, and some bad investments. Katie details how she set up her own Vanguard account. and Sarah discusses her favorite micro investing apps.
Finances
Over the years, Katie’s tried to develop her financial literacy on and off. Mostly she would just up landing on articles with asinine advice like, “Never get coffee” and “Cut out pricey food, like yogurt.” Finally, during the pandemic, she was able to prioritize reading Investing for Dummies (Katie says The Idiot’s Guide to Investing repeatedly on the show, so, let this serve as a correction! She is after all, dumb.) Reading Investing for Dummies was the comprehensive experience that Katie needed to pulls her from the depths of financial stupidity. Since reading, Katie’s started an IRA, and invested in a mutual fund and stashed the rest of her savings in a money market account, all because of the book.
Micro Investing
Sarah shares her micro investing strategies. She recommends Robin Hood for investing small amounts in stocks and crypto. Sarah also uses Acorns to round up her extra change, then at the end of the month she invests it. Sarah also uses Trubill to keep track of and cancel unused subscriptions.
